A Free Malaysian Navigation App, When You Need Something Other Than Waze
Since October 2026 many Malaysians have been looking for another way to get around: some can't use Waze at work any more, and some tried TuJu and want something that does more. LAPAN Nav is a free navigation app made in Malaysia. It opens in your phone's browser, so you can try it in a minute and keep the app you already have.

What LAPAN Nav Does Today
- Finds the place. Malls, towers, towns, hospitals, petrol stations and shops: 1 Utama, Menara KEN TTDI, Dataran Glomac, Port Dickson and KLCC all come up as the top result.
- Real roads, real turns. Turn-by-turn on the actual roads, with the lane to take and “at the second traffic light, turn left”.
- Live traffic. Car routes use live traffic, and LAPAN Nav offers a faster route when it finds one.
- Reports from fellow drivers. Police, JPJ and police roadblocks, speed cameras, crashes, jams, potholes and floods, warned before you reach them. See police and camera alerts.
- Toll fares in RM. The toll for your route, plaza by plaza, before you leave. See toll fares by highway.
- Your language. The app and the voice in Bahasa Melayu, English, 中文 and தமிழ். See navigation in your language.
- No sign-up to drive. Search and drive straight away; an account is only for points and saved places.
Who Is Behind It, and Who Gets Your Data
LAPAN Nav is built in Malaysia by Leslie Chan, a one-person company with no government money. It is free and has no ads.
None of LAPAN Nav's providers is an Israeli company. There are no ads, no trackers and no third-party analytics. The data LAPAN Nav stores is kept in Singapore and the US, and every company that touches it, with its country and what it gets, is on the Who we work with page.
LAPAN Nav does use Google Cloud and Mapbox (both from the US) for the map and car traffic. We say so openly instead of claiming everything is local.
What It Can't Do Yet
- No Android Auto or Apple CarPlay: LAPAN Nav is a web app, so use a phone holder.
- The voice stops when the screen locks or another app is in front. LAPAN Nav keeps the screen on while it's open.
- No offline map download yet. Your current route keeps working through short signal gaps.
- Speed cameras are the ones drivers have reported; there is no pre-loaded camera list yet.
TuJu and LAPAN Nav
TuJu is the Malaysian Highway Authority's (LLM) app, with highway toll costs, CCTV, an R&R list and an SOS button. LAPAN Nav is not connected with the government or LLM. You can use both: try LAPAN Nav in your browser and keep whatever already works for you.
Questions Drivers Ask
How is LAPAN Nav different from Waze or TuJu?
LAPAN Nav is an independent Malaysian app by Leslie Chan, not run by the government or a highway company. Like Waze, it has live traffic and reports from drivers; like TuJu, it shows toll fares in RM. It speaks four Malaysian languages, needs no sign-up to drive, and none of its providers is an Israeli company (see Who we work with). Not yet: Android Auto, CarPlay, and voice with the screen locked.
Is LAPAN Nav the same as “Lapan” at lapan-malaysia.com?
No. “Lapan” at lapan-malaysia.com is a different app by a different developer, and we are not connected with it. LAPAN Nav lives only at lapan-nav.com and app.lapan-nav.com, and is built by Leslie Chan. If you're not sure which one you're using, check the address in your browser.
Is LAPAN Nav free?
Yes. LAPAN Nav is free for everyone, now in testing, and has no ads.
Do I have to delete Waze or TuJu to use it?
No. LAPAN Nav opens in your browser and doesn't touch your other apps. Use it alongside them and decide for yourself.
Can I use it on a motorcycle?
Yes. Choose Motorcycle on the route preview. Motorcycle routes come from LAPAN Nav's own route planner with Malaysian access rules, so they avoid roads where motorcycles aren't allowed and know which tolls riders pay.
