Safety guide
Is LAPAN Nav safe?
Short answer: yes. LAPAN Nav is a web app, which is one of the safest kinds of app you can use. Here's what that means in plain language.
What is a web app (PWA)?
A Progressive Web App — PWA for short — is a website that works like an app. You open it in Chrome or Safari, and you can add an icon for it to your home screen. After that, it opens full-screen just like any other app.
There is no file to download and nothing to install from outside the Play Store or App Store. Your phone's browser — made by Google or Apple — keeps LAPAN Nav inside a protected space, the same way it protects you when you visit any website.
What LAPAN Nav can and cannot do on your phone
- Can use your location for navigation — only after you tap “Allow”.
- Can use your microphone for hands-free reporting — only if you turn it on.
- Cannot read your SMS, OTP or TAC codes.
- Cannot see or control your banking or e-wallet apps.
- Cannot read your contacts, photos, files or WhatsApp.
- Cannot install anything else or run hidden in the background.
You can switch off LAPAN Nav's location access any time in your browser's site settings, and remove LAPAN Nav by long-pressing its icon — exactly like any other app.
How to recognise the real LAPAN Nav
- The address is always lapan-nav.com or app.lapan-nav.com, with the 🔒 padlock.
- LAPAN Nav is free. There is no “activation fee” or paid upgrade to unlock navigation.
- Our emails only come from @lapan-nav.com.
LAPAN Nav will never:
- send you an APK file on WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS or email;
- ask you to allow “install unknown apps” or accessibility permissions;
- ask for your bank details, card number, OTP, TAC, password or IC number;
- call you to ask you to install anything.
If someone does any of these things using LAPAN Nav's name, it is a scam.
If you think you've been scammed
- Don't open the file or link. If you already installed an APK, turn on airplane mode right away.
- Call your bank, then the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997.
- Let us know at ask@lapan-nav.com so we can warn other drivers.
