Sharing Address Data with LAPAN Nav
This page is for government agencies, local councils and organisations considering sharing address or place data with LAPAN Nav. It explains exactly what the data is for and how we look after it.
Who We Are
LAPAN Nav is a free driving navigation app for Malaysia, in Malay, English, Chinese and Tamil (app.lapan-nav.com). It is built by Leslie Chan, an independent Malaysian developer.
Our aim is simple: when someone types an address such as "81, Jalan KE 3/2, Kota Emerald, Rawang", they should arrive at the right house, not the end of the street. Open maps still lack most Malaysian house numbers, which is why official address data matters.
What the Data Is Used For
- Only for address search and navigation: finding the address a user types and driving there.
- One address at a time is shown, when a user searches for it. The data is never published in bulk.
- It is never sold, never used for advertising and never given to third parties.
- If you allow it, we can share drivers' anonymous address corrections back with you.
Our PDPA Safeguards
- We need no personal data: no owner or occupant names, no IC numbers, no assessment values or payment status. Only the number, street, area, postcode and location.
- Access is limited to LAPAN Nav's own systems. No person browses the raw data.
- We delete or update the data on your request, at any time.
- Any restrictions you set (areas, fields, duration) are followed exactly.
- We follow the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 for everything else we hold, including correspondence.
Where It Is Stored
On Google Cloud in the Southeast Asia region (Singapore), encrypted at rest and in transit, in a private store that is not reachable from the internet.
How We Credit You
Every source is credited as you require, for example "Source: Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS)", in the app and on our data sources page (lapan-nav.com/providers).
