Quick facts
- What it is
- A free, Waze-style driving navigation app made in Malaysia, for Malaysian roads. It is a web app (PWA): it runs in the phone's browser and can be added to the home screen like any other app.
- Who makes it
- Leslie Chan, an independent Malaysian developer. A one-person project with no outside funding and no big company behind it.
- How to get it
- Open app.lapan-nav.com in the phone's browser. It is not in the Play Store or App Store, and there is no file to download.
- Languages
- The app, the website and the voice directions are in Bahasa Melayu, English, 中文 and தமிழ். The voice lines are written in-house, in everyday Malaysian phrasing rather than machine translation.
- What it does today
- Turn-by-turn voice directions with lane guidance, live traffic on car routes, road reports with one tap or by voice, the toll fare in RM on every car route, speed limits, and a live trip link for family on WhatsApp.
- Cost
- Free for everyone. The map works without an account.
- Stage
- Open for public testing now. It is new, so some places and roads are still missing or not quite right, and drivers' reports and fixes improve it every day.
- Not the same as Lapan
- LAPAN Nav (lapan-nav.com) is not related to Lapan (lapan-malaysia.com). Please write the name as LAPAN Nav and link to lapan-nav.com.
